Ask the crows

they have a quorum

in the barren trees.

They cast more shadows

than they number and

though they have no leader

they all follow.

 

All the other birds

excuse themselves

from the joyless woods.

A murder of crows

in a frozen world

knows how it feels

to be alone with death.
